The Den

Made slowly.
Kept forever.

Hand-finished in the UK. OEKO-TEX certified plush, linen-bound tales, cast-resin Hearthstones. Four characters, four product types.

Every release is small. Every run is numbered.

Newborn gifts, kept

Heirloom emotional companions, in the £17–£60 band.

Newborn baby gifts at Glowkin are heirloom emotional companions kept for years rather than weeks: a weighted Companion plush at £34.99, an illuminated Hearthstone at £59.99, a linen-bound Tale at £16.99, or a Nest bundle that pairs plush with book at £45. Each piece is hand-finished in Lancaster from OEKO-TEX certified fabrics with embroidered (not plastic) features and a soft amber ember-glow.

A meaningful newborn gift takes about ten minutes to choose once the feeling is settled — Courage, Wonder, Resilience, or Joy. Match the archetype to the family, not the colour scheme. Without that fit, the gift stays in the cot for a fortnight and never becomes the held thing.

How to choose

Five things separate a heirloom newborn gift from a fortnight one.

The right object for a child is not the brightest one on the gift table. It's the one still in the cot at six months, on the bedside at three years, on the shelf at fourteen.

  1. 01

    Textile safe from birth

OEKO-TEX certification means no harmful residues, no detachable plastic, no scent additives. Skin-soft from day one.

  2. 02

    Weight that distributes

350–500g across the lap, not concentrated in a beanbag pocket. That weight is what turns a soft toy into a held thing.

  3. 03

    Embroidered, never plastic

Plastic eyes are the first thing to fail. Embroidered features survive a hundred washes and a fifteen-year childhood.

  4. 04

    A repair pathway, not replacement

Lifetime repair promise. Stitch failures and worn finishes return to the studio for restoration. Not landfill.

  5. 05

    A small story attached

A nameless plush is forgotten in the toy box within a fortnight. A character — courage, joy, wonder, resilience — earns its place.

Companions

The plush. The held thing.

The 28cm weighted plush, embroidered and OEKO-TEX. Above mass plush at £15–£25, below the £130-plus collector market. Built to be both held and kept.

Hearthstones

Small lights. Held warmth.

Cast resin and oak with a soft amber ember-glow. Not a night-light — an atmosphere object. The room turns quiet around it. First runs are 250 numbered pieces per character.

Tales

The bedtime book.

Linen-bound hardbacks with atmospheric watercolour illustrations. Slow pacing. Real feelings, gently told. Read every night for years rather than rotated weekly.

The Nest

The bundled gift.

Companion plus Tale, in heirloom presentation packaging. Saves £6.98 against buying separately. The most-given gift in the range — the strongest single-purchase choice.

Choosing for the relationship

A buyer's guide by who you are.

The right Glowkin depends on who is giving and what kind of moment the gift is for. Match the archetype to the family — not the colour scheme.

  • Parent buying for own newborn
Start with a single Companion at £34.99. Add the Tale and Hearthstone over the first two years. The ritual builds gradually.

  • Godparents and grandparents
Two pieces, staggered: the Nest at the christening, then the Hearthstone at the first or second birthday.

  • Colleague or distant friend

Choose by feeling

The four characters, briefly.

Each Dragonkin is one feeling held quietly close — a different end of the same emotional brief. The names below link to the full Companion page for that character.

Blaze — the courage-companion.

“Even small warmth can guide you through darkness.”

The companion beside you during difficult moments.

Personality: gentle, dependable, kind, emotionally supportive, calm optimism.

Fira — the joy-companion.

“Joy feels strongest when shared with others.”

The companion who returns warmth to the room after a difficult moment.

Personality: uplifting, affectionate, playful, soft-energetic, emotionally warm.

Glint — the wonder-companion.

“Wonder is often found in quiet moments.”

The companion who notices the small things alongside you.

Personality: observant, emotionally intelligent, thoughtful, gentle, reflective.

Ash — the resilience-companion.

“Even after difficult moments, warmth can remain.”

The companion who waits with you while the difficult thing passes.

Personality: calm, emotionally mature, patient, grounded, reassuring.

Most families begin with a Companion in the character that fits their child first, then add the matching Tale and the Hearthstone as the bedtime ritual settles. Common questions

Things keepers ask before they buy.

What age range are Glowkin gifts suitable for?

Companions are safe from birth — 28cm, no plastic, no detachable parts, OEKO-TEX certified — and stay relevant well into primary school. Tales are written for ages 3 to 8. Hearthstones are atmosphere objects rather than infant toys, designed for the nursery rather than the cot. Most parents start with a Companion or Nest at birth and add a Hearthstone and Tale around the second birthday.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

Every Glowkin ships in a heirloom kraft presentation box with a hand-stamped numbered fabric tag — the box is part of the gift. Optional handwritten gift notes are available at checkout. Nests come bound and gift-ready with no additional wrapping required.

What does shipping cost?

Free UK shipping on orders over £75. Standard UK delivery is one to three working days once the launch run ships in 2026. EU delivery is available, with import duties payable on arrival. The launch waitlist gets first allocation before public stock release.

Is a Glowkin appropriate for a christening or baptism gift?

Yes — the Nest at £45 is the most-chosen christening or baptism gift in the range. It pairs the weighted Companion plush with the linen-bound Tale and a hand-stamped numbered tag, presented in a kraft heirloom box that itself becomes part of the keepsake. See our notes on the four-question test.

Are Glowkin pieces sold in retail shops?

No — Glowkin is direct-to-keeper from our Lancaster studio. The first runs are deliberately small and numbered. The waitlist is the order: writing the day each run is bound, with first pick before public release.

Should I buy a bundle or individual pieces?

For a single gift, the Nest at £45 is the strongest choice — it saves £6.98 against buying the Companion and Tale separately. For a parent building the bedtime ritual gradually, individual pieces work: Companion first, Tale once reading begins, Hearthstone as part of the bedroom.

Which Glowkin is the right newborn gift?

Choose by feeling, not colour. Blaze (Courage) is the steadiest first-companion choice. Fira (Joy) is the warm one for morning-after moments. Glint (Wonder) is for the watchful child. Ash (Resilience) is the quiet weight for hard days.
